Tvm: As part of its World Ahead programme, Intel is planning to launch the Healthcare Education Programme in Kerala. This was announced by John Davies, Vice President - World Ahead Program, Intel at a function, in Trivandrum on December 06, 2011, to celebrate the one hundred thousand learners trained in Intel Learn programme through Akshaya in Kerala. Earlier in the day, the Intel team had discussions with Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy and the Minister for IT & Industries, Shri P K Kunhalikutty.
Through the Healthcare Education Platform, Intel’s plan is to bring ICT training to one million healthcare workers in developing countries by the end of 2015. The programme will enable healthcare workers with technology, education tools and ICT skills to help accelerate progress toward better health primarily for women and children. The Intel Skoool™ Healthcare Education Platform provides an anytime anywhere multi-media content delivery and assessment platform. The platform is designed to help the need for health education and capacity building of the healthcare workforce. It will have an open access license with no charge.
Talking to Kerala IT News, Kishore Balaji, Head - Strategic Alliance (South Asia), Intel said, “Sri Lanka was the first country to deploy the Intel Skoool™ Healthcare Education Platform in September this year and a team from Sri Lanka will soon visit Kerala to help set up a pilot project. The programme will help government address the training needs of their healthcare workforce through Akshaya Common Service Centres”.
In his speech, the IT Minister welcomed the initiative and extended all possible help from the Government in this project while congratulating Akshaya and Intel in reaching the one hundred thousand learners milestone. He gave away the certificates to the top three Akshaya District Coordinators from Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram and Kottayam, for enrolments in the Intel Learn Programme. John gave the prizes to the top Akshaya entrepreneurs in this programme.
Intel Learn is an IT enabled education programme implemented through Akshaya in 2004 in collaboration with Intel Education Initiative under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. The aim of implementing the program was not only to bridge the digital gap but also for developing effective learning practices amongst children.
Mr.John E Davies Vice-President Intel® gave away the Top 2 Achieving center awards in the state during the years 2010 and 2011 to Akshaya Center ICS Venga –Mynagapally,Kollam and Akshaya Center Chanda-Mynagapally,Kollam respectively.
Abhishek Singh, Director, e-Governance, Dept. of IT, GoI; A Shahjahan, Director, Kerala State IT Mission and Korath V Mathew, Director, Akshaya were present on the occasion.
