Manthan Award 2010 for Akshaya
Akshaya, won the Manthan Award in the e-Governance category at the finals of the 7th Manthan Award South Asia 2010 held at New Delhi.
Touted as South Asia’s biggest event on ICT for development initiatives, the prestigious event was first conceived in 2003. Its aim is to identify, assess, award, debate and encourage best practices in usage of the Internet and mobile technologies for grassroots socio-economic benefit. Osama Manzar, Founder & Director of the awards organization said,that this year there were unprecedented 434 nominations in 15 categories across 8 countries in South Asia and 77 were selected as the finalists.
Featured categories include e-governance, e-health, e-news and media, e-inclusion, e-agriculture. The Manthan process is modelled along the lines of the United Nations’ World Summit Awards, and involves many rounds of rigorous debate and evaluation by a broad team of impartial judges.
Winners of the awards are chosen based on their impact, financial and social sustainability, value addition, participatory approach, and innovation. The projects should also be in line with the vision of the UN Millennium Development Goals and WSIS targets (World Summit on the Information Society).
