Akshaya District Project Office (ADPO) Kannur is situated in the District Capital. Currently there are 269 Akshaya Centres under the Jurisdiction of ADPO Kannur.

In Kannur, like in other districts, Akshaya centers have been set up to facilitate digital education &  online government services. These centers help people learn essential computer skills, access government schemes and services online, and engage in other digital activities.

The Akshaya project is designed to empower individuals,  in both urban & rural areas, by enhancing their ability to interact with the digital world. It also aims to improve the efficiency of government services by making them accessible online.
On 22nd Sept 2007 Declared as E-Literacy District. Best Performing District 2014-15, Best e-Governed District 2016 & 2017. 

Achievements


The achievements of the Akshaya District Project in Kannur are truly impressive and demonstrate the district’s commitment to digital empowerment and inclusivity. Here’s a overview of the key milestones:

1.    Declared E-Literacy District (22nd September 2007):
On this date, Kannur was officially declared an E-Literacy District, highlighting its significant efforts to improve digital literacy and access to technology for its citizens, especially in rural areas.

2.    Early Implementation of e-District Project:
Kannur was one of the first districts to implement the e-District Project, which aimed at providing government services online to enhance the efficiency and transparency of public administration.

3.    Best Performing District (2014-15):
Recognized as the Best Performing District in 2014-15, Kannur stood out for its successful execution of digital initiatives and the widespread adoption of technology across its population.

4.    Best e-Governed District (2016 & 2017):
Kannur earned the title of Best e-Governed District for two consecutive years, 2016 and 2017, reflecting its excellent performance in utilizing digital tools for governance and public service delivery.

5.    Launch of TriD Digital Empowerment Campaign (2017):
Kannur became the first district to launch the TriD (Digital Empowerment) Campaign, which aimed at empowering citizens through technology and encouraging digital literacy across all sections of society.

6.    Mapping Akshaya Centres on Google Maps (2017):
Kannur made history by being the first district to bring all Akshaya Centres under Google Maps, making it easier for people to find and access these centers for digital services and training.

7.    Initiation of Transgender Aadhaar Camps(2024):
Kannur was the first district to organize special Aadhaar camps for the transgender community, ensuring their inclusion in the national identification system and giving them access to vital government services and benefits.

These achievements not only highlight Kannur’s role as a pioneer in digital governance and inclusion but also its forward-thinking approach in ensuring that technology benefits all citizens, including marginalized communities.
